Dirty Condenser Unit

Out of sight, out of mind. Most homeowners tend to forget about their condenser unit. Since it is placed outside, it can easily be overlooked. Check if your condenser is covered with dirt, dust, mold, and other debris. These particles reduce the efficiency of your unit in cooling your home and cause your electric bills to spike. While some DIYers will clean their own condenser, we recommend leaving it to the pros.

Clogged Coil

Winter months might have left some unpleasant elements which can cause your unit to malfunction. You might find trash or vegetation blocking your condensing coil, which reduces airflow and prevents your system to operate smoothly. Be sure to inspect and clean it every month.

Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant leaks are among the major problems of a condenser failure, and it can jeopardize an entire system. Check the condenser coil or connections to the compressor for any leaks. If you notice a drop in cooling power from your A/C, hear a hissing noise from the condenser, or notice frost around the unit, call for repairs immediately!

Condenser Fan Malfunctions

Your condenser fan is designed to keep your condenser unit cool and keep your A/C to operate efficiently. So, check if your condenser fans are not dented or bent. Clean and clear any debris, leaves, grass clippings or vegetation. A faulty condenser fan prevents heat transfer which makes your A/C compressor to overheat.

Filthy Odors

Filthy odors from your A/C system can be caused by burned wires or damaged parts in your condenser unit. Other reasons can be from mildew or mold accumulated from condensation to refrigerator coils. You may use an air freshener, but it only masks the unhealthy odor temporarily. Consulting a professional would be definitely a wise move.
